Tsunami Theories
Following is a letter submitted to the South Burnett Times by Pat Graham in
which she raised some very important questions about the recent tsunami in
South East Asia
Pat Graham's "Tsunami theories" (SBT 7/1/05) sounds reasonable to many
concerned about the tragedies of this world. However, this thinking doesn't
begin at God's Word, but in man's natural mind, which is corrupt because of
sin in us (Romans 7).
If our thinking begins with the Truth God has revealed, we understand that:
Firstly, all evil results from God's judgment for sin (disobedience to
Him-Genesis 3). Without the truth of literal creation, sin, and judgment,
it's no surprise that modern Christianity is generally not taken seriously.
Such "religion" neither squares with the facts of life nor provides us with
answers. Biblical facts teach us that we are already guilty, justly
condemned under the Law, with no rights, living on borrowed time. (John
3:36) God has already judged sinners.
Secondly, God doesn't owe us anything, not even e.g. the explanation why He
allowed sin to enter the world. Can the creature (a guilty one at that!)
understand the Creator, or judge Him? And to say God is not in control is
neither sensible nor scriptural. God is Ruler not subject! He "worketh all
things after the counsel of his own will" (Ephesians 1:11).
Thirdly, as for God's loving some and not others, Paul explains in Romans 9,
"Hath not the potter power over the clay .. to make one vessel unto honour
and another unto dishonour?" Hence, God justly hates all sinners and loves
only those He has chosen in Christ to redeem. If only we could grasp how
abhorrent sinners are to God, we'd have no trouble believing in hell. Many
would judge God without first hearing what He has to say! But the day is
coming when the Lamb of God will judge mercilessly all who reject His Truth!
Fourthly, our problem is not in understanding the facts of God's Word, but
in believing and humbly accepting them!
Fifthly, evolution, an unproven, unscientific, and ever-changing "theory"
(taught as fact), willfully ignores both Scripture and the scientific facts,
but God's Word stands unchanging for ever, like an impregnable fortress
against all who oppose it.
Finally, if man is not a guilty sinner, why does he need a Saviour? Dear
readers we must look to Jesus alone for eternal safety from the wrath of God
(far worse than the tokens of judgment we see in this world).
Yours faithfully
